Nice stereo!!!!!!!!! I installed it myself. It was easy. When I first heard it, I was amazed. I noticed a major difference much better sound quality then my stock stereo. No regrets. Nice price and very cool. I recommened this stereo. great with iPods and MP3 CDs Very clean sound and easy to use controls. The stereo comes with the cables necessary to use an iPod or other USB source routed through the back, but it also allows for a 3.5mm mini connection in the front. This is a great head unit for the price. Great for Ipod This is a great tuner for you ipod. I ran the included cords (has a usb extentioin cord and an ipod usb cord) to my glove box so I just leave it in there. No need to mess with it at all as the redeiver also charges your ipod. My next test is going to be with one of the passport external hard drives with 140 gig of music to see how well it handles it. I have read elsewhere that it does a good job with externals. One thing that is kind of a pain is the shuffle feature. It wants to shuffle all the time so I am going to have to dig through the manual to see how to control the shuffle better, its like it is the default setting for the ipod of something. This has a lot less buttons than other tuners which I like, but they didnt cut any features. Buttons do multiple tasks and the volume knob turns to select settings. Lots of power on this one too. Seems like a quality unit and the only one I have seen that has a two year warranty. I had an alpine with ipod control that was the bigest pain in the a**; this Pioneer is smooth and easy especially for the price relatively speaking. Got one for my wifes car too. I like having the same unit in all vehicles so I dont have to try and remember what does what, just listen to the tunes.

Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player

Great CD Player This is one of the best CD players I've used. I listen to a lot of Books on Tape and this player picks up exactly where you leave off even if you stop it to do something else for awhile. It's fairly good about playing scratched CDs and has not jumped while I have been working out in the yard or walking with it. The ear phones are OK but get bit irritating after wearing them for a time. If you are looking for a good CD portable player without the radio, this is it. It is pretty light on battery use also. Just Along For The (Bus) Ride I bought this to while away the 40 minute bus ride to work. It's a great little machine. Simple and straightforward, compact and easy to operate. The battery life is good. I'm at about hour 10 and still going strong. Actually the battery insertion is not the easiest, and the earphones that come with it are not very good; mine were broken on the second day (mysteriously, a wire poked through the earpiece) so make sure you have your own. But as I said the player works great, and the battery life is good. As for the battery insertion - actually the battery removal, take the innermost battery out first. Disabling anti skip vastly improves the sound When I first began listening to a CD I was not impressed with the sound of this player as it seemed somewhat veiled or recessed. I played with some of the functions, such as the Mega bass boost, which basically ruined the sound by drowning it in bass, then I tried using the AVLS automatic volume limiter - a function I can't ever foresee using. I found my answer through a careful read of the instructions regarding "G protection. By canceling the anti-skip function the sound VASTLY improved. Since I do my listening in "non" active mode, I'm not jogging or wrestling while listening to the music, this listening mode is the perfect one for me. To disable or enable the G mode, press the off button, then press and hold down the fast forward button then press and hold down the play button. Wait a second or two and look in the display window for G-off or G-on. You will then notice a dramatic improvement in the sound quality. As for battery installation, it took me about 20 seconds to install a pair of Lithium batteries. A child could do it blindfold. Pair this player with a decent set of headphones ( I bought Sony MDR-150) and you've got quite a nice sounding setup. In normal mode, which I use exclusively (meaning no bass boost and G-off) the sound is rich, extended, clear (meaning surprisingly transparent for a player in this price range) and most importantly, it does not pain your ears during long listening sessions. Overall, I am quite happy with this Sony.

Kenwood KDC-BT838U - Radio / CD / MP3 player / digital player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4
From KENWOOD

This receiver has it all, including a built-in Bluetooth hands-free cell phone module. Other features include USB direct control for portable music devices, 3-line text full dot display, interactive illumination effect, and a multi-control wheel that makes finding music fast and easy.
Amazon Sales Rank: #1863 in Car Audio or Theater Brand: Kenwood Model: BT838U Dimensions: 6.00 pounds

Kenwood KDC-BT838U CD receiver This head unit is well worth the price. I am anti-iPod guy and this unit having an USB connection made it very easy to "digitally" connect a hard drive. I now have a 200 gig hard drive (~$150) in my vehicles, never with out a type of music. This unit allows you to navigate the hard drive from the units screen. With the provided software, you can make playlist or just add music to the hard drive. It also has bluetooth, so you can also stream music that way. The unit also come with hands free, there is a mic with a cord on it long enough to put anywhere. If your state is (or has) mandated hands free devices and you are not one to want to look like a cyborg, this unit will comply with the law. It mutes the music, diplays the caller, push a knob and your connected. Once hooked up, everything is automatic, just get into your car, start it and it connects. It will download your phonebook to the unit so you can dial from the unit. Here is another good thing, ever leave home without your cell phone, well you wont ever again, tells you not connected within a minute of starting your vehicle. I would definitly recommend this to my poorest friend, well worth the investment. Great This stereo is great in my 29004 Jeep liberty. Works great. No problems and its referbished! Perfect for the ipod and CD's. Its a keeper. (= Really really bad Car Stereo I've had this unit for about 6 months. It is a nightmare. By attempting to eliminate all buttons with combinations of sequential knob pushes in varying directions, the idiots who designed this thing have made even the simplest action, from setting the clock to creating a radio pre-set close to impossible. The manual looks like a schematic for the space shuttle, and the initial setup took me close to two hours talking to the guy at Kenwood. It was clear from that conversation that even he didn't know how to use this thing, and he also indicated that a lot of his day is spent trying to walk frustrated owners through tasks that in any other radio would be simple. I just spent an hour trying to intuit how to change the clock setting. When you hit the menu button you are presented a long list of esoteric and unintelligible options. Setting the clock just doesn't happen to be one of them. It also does a terrible job accessing music on my IPOD. It totally misreads my playlists and once it's connected to the IPOD, you can not use the IPOD controls which are much better. Also the speech recognition option to access the phone not only doesn't work, it disables the one on my phone that works great. Despite the cost, I'm inclined to pull it toss it in the nearby ocean, and start fresh. What a disaster!!! Steve LA

Convenient Operation Enjoy Uninterrupted Music This changer is 5-disc carousal type, giving you the benefits of extended playing time and direct selection from any of five discs. And with PlayXchange, you can change up to four discs while the fifth continues to play. You don't have to interrupt the music to change a disc and you're not limited to change only one disc at a time. What's more, when you press the open/close button, the tray opens all the way, allowing you to change all 5 discs at once. CD-R/RW Disc Compatibility This CD changer can handle CD-R and CD-RW discs with ordinary songs. (Note that some discs may not play.) 40-track random Access Programmable Play and Clear Change up to 4 discs while the fifth one plays
Great 5 Disk Carosel Player I was surprised how little user information was available on the web about 5 disk carousel changers. I tried several higher end players (including Rotel, Denon, Sony, Onkyo/Integra and Marantz*) but I couldn't get past the extremely long time it took to switch tracks between disks while in random/shuffle mode (15 to 20 seconds). The 17 year changer I was replacing could change tracks on different disks in 8 to 10 seconds (measured from the end of one song to the start of another on a different disk). Yamaha got it right with the CDC-697. It matched the track change speed of my 17 year old changer. If you regularly listen to music in random/shuffle mode, this CD changer is the only one out there (in 2008) that can change tracks on different disks within a reasonable time (8-10 seconds vs 15-20 seconds). Nothing else I tried out there that could do that. Yamaha also seems to have the best version of the disk exchange feature. All the players I tried allow you to change some of the disks while one disk is still playing but the Yamaha is the only one that lets you change 4 of the 5 disks (the fifth is still playing). The others only let you access 2 of the 5 disks to change. I think Yamaha put more thought into the "changer" aspect of this model. One other benefit is that the CDC-697 is one of the few CD changers that supports CD text. I hope this helps others. * I did not personally test the Marantz CC4001 but I was able to get someone on the DTVforum to check the timing for me. Objective review of the Yamaha CD player Before buying the Yamaha 5-disc CD player, I did a comprehensive analysis of all currently available products. It included the players made by Denon, Onkyo, Teac and Sony among others, as well as DVD players that can also play CD's. I wanted a high quality player to work well with a stereo system including large JBL studio monitor speakers, a high-power integrated amplifier, and a direct drive Technics turntable. I had no interest in playing DVD's, only in good quality audio CD's, so I eliminated from consideration many products which are basically DVD players. I found out that most multi-disc CD players compromise their technical specifications compared with the audiophile-quality single-disc CD players, with Yamaha CDC-697 looking better than the others, possibly because it is optimized for playing CD's only, while the Denons and Onkyos also play compressed audio files like MP3 and WMA. Any product that attempts to do too many things at once, usually does not do anything well! Investigations of Yamaha's repair record compared with competitive products also appear favorable. Finally, I found out that CDC-697 can be operated both by the pushbuttons on the front panel or by the remote control. All competing carousel CD changers are not fully operational without using the remote. We are sick of having everything requiring a remote to operate. It is just a fake "convenience feature for the user", whose real purpose is to cut the equipment manufacturing costs by eliminating the old-style manual controls from the front panel! We had the Yamaha CDC-697 for two months now and everything is fine so far. It was easy to set up without the remote control. We have not even inserted the batteries into the remote, the unit operates just fine without it, although there are some functions that are available only through the remote. We had to read only the first 10 pages of the 24-page owner's instruction manual to use the unit, for which my wife is very pleased. The competing carousel CD changers have 60 to 90 page manuals which take many hours to study before you can use the unit! Let's hope that Yamaha does not make any silly engineering changes in the CDC-697 to make it more alike the Denon, Onkyo or Sony. We do not own an i-pod and will never buy it in the future, we will also never need to play any compressed audio files, we just want high fidelity music. The fidelity of music from the Yamaha player through our system is just as good as from the Technics direct drive turntable with an elliptical Shure cartridge and new 33 RPM vinyl records, and we do not miss the occasional clicks usually present in vinyl records. Amazon did a very good job in packing our Yamaha player. It arrived on time through a UPS two-day delivery. Good unit but one crazy problem with power cable This is a solid unit but I had to discuss a problem with the power cable that I received with the unit. The end of the cable that hooks into the back of the player would not sit flush with the hole it hooks into (FYI if you consult the manual some versions of this unit do not have this). As soon as I plugged it in I thought the cable didn't seem to fit. Then the player would not turn on. I was required to finally hold the power cable with my hand so it would stay flush and keep juice to the machine going. I gave up and went to my basement and got out a similar power cable which worked perfectly. This is a crazy problem and I don't know who is at blame but it sent me for a loop. I docked the review of this unit heavily for such a hassle. As for the machine it works great and helps me listen to many more cds continuously than a single disc player. It changes discs really fast and keeps the tunes flowing. You can also change discs while one is playing which is nice.

Kenwood DPX-302 Review This radio fits very well as a double din replacement, and includes the brackets to install it. Sound quality is good in what you would expect for this price range. Setting this radio for the first time is a bit confusing though, because the instructions don't match what you need to do in practice. It takes a while to figure out. The use of a joystick to select bands and stations is a curious experience in a car radio. My only concern is in terms of the durability of the device compare with the classical buttons. But on the other hand you have the remote control to do the same thing. Kenwood DPX 302 I bought this headunit about a year ago. I have yet to have a problem with it. It's not bad AT ALL once you learn what everything does. The settings of being able to adjust the Hertz going to the front and the Hertz going to the rear may seem difficult, but anyone with a good ear can manipulate it into a good sound. I'd suggest this to anyone. Also, if buying for a Ford, it will not fit exactly. Ford does not use a true dual din set up in their headunits even though by their standards they are. I used the the frame they provide and cut the top off it off and sanded the edges of the frame and put some black rubber dip on the backside and popped it right in. Looks like it was made to fit in my Mustang GT to replace the Mach 460 headunit. Once you get past the menu.... I bought this kenwood unit to replace my Focus's OEM receiver. The install was smooth, and the sound is much better than the OEM unit. Kenwood's instructions aren't that great, but once you paly around for a few hours you really get the hang of it. One of the best features is the customization. It has high pass filters, low pass, sub level, graphic EQ presets... a plethora of settings, it even caters to your speaker size! I'm running a small sub and OEM speakers and this deck makes listening to music very enjoyable.

Good MP3/CD player I like just about everything regarding this player. Good quality sound and functions. The MP3/CD player lift lid is a little flimsy though. Also, when playing a CD/MP3 there is not a memory function on the player. Since I listen to lessons and cannot fully complete a lesson, having a memory function to book mark where you are on the MP3/CD would be extremely helpful, so you can turn it on and pick up where you left off. Due to this I had to switch back to my old player. Too bad since I like this one a lot. Great little player for the money! I looked at a lot of different portable mp3 players, which is the main reason I bought this unit, and I am very happy with my purchase. I wasn't sure if the unit had a back light, because it doesn't say and the picture doesn't show it, but it does. The display is very basic, it would have been nice if it supported cd-text, but the 4 speakers and sound quality make up for what it may lack. It plays cd's, and mp3's without any problems, and the bass boost works good too. The sound quality easily fills a family room and it doesn't degrade as you turn it up. I've never used the brand before now, but based upon my experience, I would buy this brand again. JWIN JX-CD483 Boombox For the price this box is pretty good. It sounds ok, has plently of bass and a good volume control. It's not a real high quality piece, but it does the job. I wanted it to play MP3's mainly. That it does and I am satisfied.

DENON DN-HS5500 RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX I WAS ABLE TO SET UP AND BEGIN PLAYIN THE DN-HS5500 WITHIN 20 MINUTES. I TOOK A USB MINI DRIVE 4GB AND LOADED UP WITH RANDOM MUSIC HOOK THE DN-HS5500 TO MY MIXER AND WAS MIXING AND SCRATCHING WITH NO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A HECK OF A UNIT!!! I BOUGHT IT OVER A MONTH AGO AND I'M STILL DISCOVERING THINGS ABOUT IT. YES IT IS POWERFUL AND TO TWO CD PLAYERS BUILT INTO ONE GIVE YOU UNPRESIDENTED CONTROL FROM ONE UNIT I'M PLANNING ON BUYING THE OPTIONAL CD PLAYER BECAUSE I HAVE A TON OLD OLD SCHOOL SONGS ON CD THAT I CAN'T FIND AN MP3 FOR....WORKS FLAWLESSLY Gone digital Owned this for three days now, I've had no problems with it. I was mixing with it ten minutes out of the box. Since it takes up the space of only one turn table I have alot more room. I nearly bought two just because I felt the need to keep the idenity, but now I'm over it. I'm complete happy with just one. It does the job of both and selecting your music from a menu is faster than searching through records or cds giving you more time to mix. I'd sleep with this thing if my wife would let me. I thought I'd always stay true to vinyl but this thing plays so crisp and powerful. I'm not looking back. Sweeeet This player is so cool. I got a couple of them. it is easy to connect with my Laptop and use like MIDI controller for DJ Traktor PRO. That thing that you have two decks in one player makes possible to use all 4 decks in the Tracktor. Just some moments... Of course latency. And it couldn't read my external hard drive 500 gb. So I have bought two mini USB Flash Drives 16 Gb each. It is better for high quality sound to buy good cables. Wanna funny slipmats? you can create your own and just print it out (all instructions on Denon website) with your girlfriend picture... for example. Have a great DJing =)

Good quality, great features Just got the unit installed a couple of days back, together with a new amp, rear speakers and sub-woofer. The audio quality is excellent and I am very satisfied with the overall performance and quality of the system. Works great with my iPod nano and iPhone. The best part is the bluetooth handsfree support. The voice quality is absolutely clear and even with the mic installed close to the sun visor the person on the other side can hear me equally clear. I tried bluetooth pairing with two phones - a Nokia 7710 and an iPhone. The only problem I have faced so far is that with the Nokia the unit failed to download the contacts from the phone's address book, while it worked beautifully with the iPhone. The menu navigation is definitely a bit complex and making adjustments while driving can get to be dangerously distracting. One area that definitely leaves a lot to be desired is the display. A 7 segment LCD display in a premium 2-DIN car audio unit looks kind of out of place in the year 2008 - definitely disappointing considering the price of the unit. Overall, I will definitely recommend this unit for its quality, features and performance. This baby sings! After buying a new '08 Mercury Milan with the MS SYNC, I wanted a new radio with built in bluetooth for my Ford Sport Trac. After much reading of reviews I chose this radio & couldn't be more pleased. I had to do a little modification to the truck (not true double din) for it to fit but it did and looks & sounds great. Controls my ipod through the head unit but it can even play music through any usb connected device from any size flash drive to a portable 2.5" hard drive! That's A LOT of music! It's satellite ready & I added Sirius which I love but still my favorite feature is the bluetooth. Pair it to your cell phone and talk right through the unit! Never touch your cell phone again while driving... It's GREAT! Awesome unit It takes a while to learn how to use. But once you learn the controls it's fairly easy to manipulate. HD radio is great. I love having 2 channels per frequency, often with the second channel being commercial-free. Sound quality on mic for telephone calls is awesome. There are lots of choices for audio manipulation. Be sure to adjust the sound specifically for Ipod in the audio menu. My Ipod sounded tinny compared to radio, etc. until I used one of their specialized settings for Ipod. In general a quality unit. I don't regret this purchase one bit.

Really nice The boombox is great. Works easy; my four year-old has no trouble operating the cd player. Sound quality really good. Nice little "boombox" I bought this radio/cd player for my 4 yr old daughter. Although she's not a "Barbie" fanatic, she loves the colour and the appearance of the radio. The barbie button that lights up on the top of the cd player is a nice touch too. The sound is a little on the "tinny" side, but still quite good, especially considering the small size and price of the boombox. Most surprising is the impressive sound clarity at higher volumes. Both the cd player and the radio are fairly easy to navigate. The boombox does not have station display, but instead uses a tiny indentation on the tuner dial that you rotate to select stations, which makes it a bit more difficult for youngsters to tune in a station. However, an LED will light up when a station is properly tuned in. The cd player will only play regularly formatted cd's (not mp3 or other formats). However, there is an auxilary jack that allows you to plug in other music players such as an mp3 player or Ipod. (This is a great feature for my daughter, who has hundreds of songs loaded onto her mp3 player). Overall, a great product and highly recommended. Perfect little girl boombox I bought this for my 6-year old daughter, who is very "girly". She absolutely loves it! Its not the perfect sound quality that I would prefer, but for the cost and since it is for a child, it is just right! It is easy for her to use. It was a good purchase - I recommend it!

Blue Memorex MP3226 CD Player with AM FM Stereo and Cassette Recorder
From Memorex

Amazon Sales Rank: #45075 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Memorex Model: MP3226

Died after 5 months. I bought this at Target. It was the last one and I thought how lucky I was. I used it as a listening center for my students because it had a cd and cassette player and they loved it. Until the headphone jack broke and was beyond repair. My students have severe learning and developmental delays. They did not like listening to their favorite stories without their headphones. The headphones shield out other sound and are a source of sensory comfort. Extremely disappointed with product and will not buy a Memorex product again. Planned obsolescence Why are all these little CD players junk? 25-30 dollars is not throw away money for most people. I'm so tired of these major brands like Memorex and Phillips selling cheap machines that don't last. I don't know if they're all made by the same sweatshop in China or what, but whoever designs and makes them has no pride in their workmanship.

JVC RC-EX16B Portable Boombox with CD Player, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner (Black)
From JVC

This Stylish Portable CD System features Hyper Bass Sound, 20 Track Program Repeat Play, CD Synchro Record and a Remote Control.
Color: Black Brand: JVC Model: RCEX16B Dimensions: .9" h x .12" w x .18" l, 10.00 pounds
Compact and affordable, the JVC RC-EX16B portable boombox is a great choice for tailgaters, camping trips, picnics, and a host of other activities. The device is outfitted with a stylish black housing that holds a CD player, cassette deck, AM/FM tuner, and a pair of 3.56-inch full-range speakers. The chassis looks good and holds up durably to outdoor use, but also fits effortlessly indoors in a bedroom or office setting. Users will groove to the unit's solid range of compatible listening formats, which includes audiocassettes, CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. And should listeners tire of prerecorded music, they can turn to the digital AM/FM tuner and enjoy their favorite NPR program or sports talk host. In addition to its sleek housing and solid compatibility, the boombox offers a number of essential CD functions, including 20-track programming, random and repeat play, and CD synchro-start recording, which coordinates the first few seconds of CD playback with the cassette deck's record button. The system's solid audio performance stems not just from its quality speakers (with 2-watt-per-channel output), but also its 1-bit digital-to-analog converter, which ensures a crisp, clean signal, and add-ons such as a Hyper-Bass sound system that pumps up the low-end frequencies. The unit even includes a full-function remote control that operates the system from a distance. Appropriately for a portable player, the boombox runs on six "D" batteries and includes a fold-down carrying handle for easy transport. The device also carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Boombox, remote control, AC power cord, two AAA remote batteries, user's manual.
For the price, an excellent Boombox! I purchased this item from Amazon 5 days ago, I received it in the mail yesterday, and I was very impressed. The Boombox was packed well, the manual was very clear, and written well. The design is very good, and the radio, CD player, and cassette player work very well. For $49.99, this is one of the best boom boxes I ever owned! I think JVC makes all their products very well, and all the information that comes with it. I would recommend this boombox to anyone. Plus, you get a small hand remote for the CD player! Good for smaller space I am writing to recommend the JVC Boombox that I purchased recently. This is a nice little boombox that works well in the bedroom where I intended to use it. When I initially took it out of the box, I plugged in to an outlet in a large room with a high ceiling. In there, it sounded tinny and not very pleasant. There is no adjustment for treble or bass sound which is disappointing. The boombox is easy to operate. not bad at all It works adequately well and serves its purpose given its price and size. It may not be the best sound you ever heard from a boombox, but it isnt the worst either. Some features are lacking like the bass-treble controls. It doesnt look quite as fancy as the picture portrays; it's more plastic looking. However, as long as I've had it which is about several months, it's worked just fine, plays good & I havent had any major complaints.

Problems with his CD Player When I saw this on line it looked good but when I received it and played a CD on it and I was walking around it skips I really like this walkman because it has FM/AM radio I can not take it back because I broke the package that it came in. So in regards to this CD Player DON'T BUY IT PLEASE. Virtually useless When I read the previous review about this thing skipping, I didn't pay too much attention because I intended to keep it on my kitchen counter. However, it skips while anyone walks anywhere near it. This is the most amazingly unstable CD player I've ever seen. The best I can say for it is that with the right peripherals, it could be a nifty seismograph. Nice idea, just doesn't work Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I bought one of these for each of my boys, and also bought an adapter so I could plug it into the wall. Tiny player; doesn't take up much space, and can be used with batteries while we're on the road. The problem? BOTH players freaked out in a matter of months!!! Most often, one or the other just doesn't work (or won't read a CD). Neither allows me to pause or skip ahead anymore. If you touch it funny, it just dies. I would have given this a five in the month or two after I got both of mine. But I have to guess that since TWO pooped out, it's not just a fluke.

Meanwhile, a high-precision crystal oscillator and jitter-cleaner device work together to stabilize the clock frequency. You get meticulous timing for all digital signals and hence beautifully clear separation of musical instruments. Onkyo C-S5VL - Stellar Audio Quality Have had my Onkyo C-S5VL for a week now, and all that can be said is, "Superb Audio Quality for the money". 24 bit D/As definitely make one heck of a difference over a wide variety of music from classical to Rock & Roll. Really impressed. CD tray is a little bit mechanically sloppy compared to my old Sony which was built like a tank, but sufficient. Only mistake I made was not waiting for the price to drop. A real deal now if your a serious audio enthusiast. My CD sounds much better and the SACD playback is wonderful My CD playback was never satisfactory. C-S5VL finally changed that. It replaces my Jolida CD 100 with a tube output stage. The Onkyo sounds transparent and involving. All my CDs are refreshed! Now, I can also enjoy SACD. The SACD playback is a noticeable improvement. This allows me to start collecting SACD. Under the hook, the 8742, the latest of Wolfson DAC, does a wonderful job. For CD, I am using the default digital filter #1. For SACD, I am using the DSD direct, bypassing digital filters. Onkyo did an excellent job to keep high end sound with a modest cost. Highly recommended. -- update -- Now I have C-S5VL for nearly two months. I enjoyed it enormously. Most importantly, I have collected many RC Living Stereo SACD, the BIS Records Beethoven Symphonies SACD boxset, and a few other SACD from Chesky and Reference Recordings. The sound quality of SACD is significantly better than CD; it is hard to go back to listen to many of my older CDs. The sound stage is so real, the instruments sound so natural, the performance is so vivid, it is hard to leave my listening chair. Now I start to understand why the Vinyl LP audiophiles have difficulty to switch to listen CD. They have enjoyed more music 40 years ahead of us. Great SACD player for the money I listen to classical music and have almost a thousand CD collections. I own a number of CD players as well as dedicated DACs. To my ears Onkyo C-S5VL is the first CD player that is able to reproduce the violins in orchestra as "violins". You could almost hear them being player individually without sounding hash nor bright. My Spendor BC1 now sounds almost up to its full potential. Many believe Wolfson WM8742 DAC is the best there is in terms of digital to analog conversion. Oh did I say C-S5VL also plays SACD. IMHO a good recording of SACD disc with Onkyo C-S5VL is hard to beat. Heads off to Onkyo for making this excellent sounding CD/SACD player at a price point that average consumer like me can afford.

The CD player section incorporates a 1-bit digital-to-analog converter to ensure superior audio playback, while also offering such functions as track programming, random play, and repeat play. The full-logic auto-reverse cassette deck, meanwhile, plays and records both forward and backward, letting you easily archive CDs or radio programs without missing more than a moment of footage. Additional cassette deck features include a four-digit electronic index counter with a convenient Clear button; an automatic tape selector; switchable Dolby B noise reduction; and cassette pitch control. A final bonus stems from the Computomatic program search function, which scans for sound breaks in the cassette so you can easily find the song you're seeking. The AD-500 also includes separate line outputs for CD and cassette, a headphone jack with level control, and a full-function remote control. So condense your system components without losing precious functionality with the Teac AD-500. What's in the Box AD-500 CD player/cassette deck, remote control, user's manual.
Great for those of us who can't part with our audio cassettes My initial impression is that this is a high quality unit that does great things, not only for CD albums, but for all those treasured cassettes you used to use in your car until your new car came with a CD player. Now you can bring both of those formats out of the car, now that a hot summer is just around the corner, and enjoy them inside using earphones or as input to your stereo or home theatre system. My greatest surprise is how good the cassettes sounded in this player. I never remembered them sounding this good! Possibly the player does some audio processing above and beyond the call of duty. Anyway, I love the sound, features (it records to cassette from CD or line input), and the general quality of the unit. It may be considered expensive compared to the many cheaper CD or cassette players flooding the market. But this is a quality player. Recommended. TEAC product is good quality Unit has great sound production and thorough instructions; basic operation and hookup was easy and didn't require much research. This baby is built!! My wife brought many music cassete tapes from Japan when we moved here years ago and her old player died recently.. I started looking for a new one and found it to be difficult to find anything of quality. I finally found the Teac and she is ecstatic over the sound quality. We had never heard her tapes sound so wonderful! And, the Teac can also copy a cd to cassete if she needs to.

Sony CMT-NEZ30 Audio Micro System with CD Player, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner
From Sony

Micro Component Shelf System
Amazon Sales Rank: #7991 in Consumer Electronics Color: Silver w/ wood Brand: Sony Model: CMTNEZ30 Dimensions: 10.00" h x 18.00" w x 11.00" l, 8.00 pounds
Not every space can accommodate a traditionally sized stereo system, which is where the Sony CMT-NEZ30 comes into play. The diminutive unit fits easily in a work cubicle, bookcase, tool cabinet, or rec room, yet still boasts plenty of power for small rooms (30 watts total), a pair of full-range speakers, and a trio of reliable components. The top-loading CD player serves as the centerpiece, with such features as CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-CD compatibility and a host of playback modes, including program, shuffle, and repeat. The four-track, two-channel cassette deck, meanwhile, not only records from CDs or the radio, but also starts recording at the moment the CD starts playing, ensuring seamless playback later on. Add in a digital AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets (10 AM and 20 FM) and you have a system that aims to please. Of course, components are only half the story. The system also includes a pair of bass-reflex speakers with "tuned" ports that increase and extend the bass response, along with a full complement of drivers (3.1-inch woofer, 1.6-inch tweeter, and 0.8-inch supertweeter per speaker). Contributing to the system's satisfying audio performance are the built-in equalizer--with rock, jazz, classic, hall, live, movie, and flat modes--and Sony's Dynamic Sound Generator X-tra (DSGX) Mega Bass sound enhancer, which further boosts the lows. Listeners can even set the CMT-NEZ30 to record a radio program when they're not home (for those who just can't stand to miss "Car Talk") or to serve as a sleep timer or alarm. The unit offers 10 timed shutoffs for people who like to drift off to sleep with music, and will wake to your choice of the radio or a CD. And as a final bonus, the system includes a PC/audio input. The dual-use jack can accommodate either digital music players, such as portable MP3 players or iPods, or PCs with speaker outputs. Once connected, users can listen to their full iPod or MP3 catalog through the system's speakers, or they can stream music directly from their PC. Additional features include an easy-to-read LCD display, a comprehensive remote control, and a power-save mode. Dimensions range from 6.45 by 9.25 by 10.44 inches (W x H x D) for the main unit to 5.71 by 9.25 by 6.1 for each speaker. The entire system is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Main unit, two speakers, FM lead antenna, Remote Commander remote control, two AA batteries, user's manual.
Exactly what I was looking for For sub-$100, this little stereo does everything I need it to. This "micro" unit is truly small: it fits on top of our microwave, speakers and all. The CMT-NEZ30 replaced a boombox that conked out. To replace it, I wanted something through which I could play my MP3 player. That function works well. It is an simple auxiliary input, and allows me to play my podcasts at home without walking around with headphones on. At 30 watts, the sound is ample for the kitchen, and significantly more powerful than what I had previously. I didn't want something so powerful that needed to be played loudly in order to get full sound. That is not to say it can't put out some volume, however. As for sound quality, it is the very crisp, balanced sound that Sony fans have come to expect. For the wide range of music I play, the bass and treble settings cover it all. The single-CD player may discourage some people, but since it can play MP3 CDs, you can get some serious playtime out of it. For myself, my cooking is rarely so complicated that I can't stop to change a CD, anyhow. But I saved the best thing for last: it has a cassette player! (Insert cricket chirps here.) All in all, I am very happy with this unit for its versatility, size, and sound quality. It was the perfect solution for my needs. Nice Little Stereo If you're looking for bells and whistles look elsewhere. If you're looking for 3 or 5 disc changer, not this one. If you need a nice little stereo to play one CD at a time, space saving, full and clean tone - this is awesome !!! It looks really sharp, has a crisp sound. Perfect for a small bedroom or office. I am very happy with this purchase. Has a tape deck as well and radio. EQ settings are simple - no presets, just bass and treble - there is also DSGX switch [kind of like a loudness setting] just leave it ON. Very simple, well made - I like it !! No frills, great price. Great product delivering good value for people with simple needs As the previous reviews had said: no frills, basic functions, good sound, compact size, clean look, and a reasonable price. Exactly what I have been looking for for a long time and could not find!

Amazon Sales Rank: #48484 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Toshiba Model: SD2805 Dimensions: 4.60" h x 17.00" w x 15.00" l, 12.50 pounds

A superb value The best thing that can be said about the Toshiba SD2805 is that it was once top-rated by Consumer Reports. Now how you feel about Consumer Reports' ratings is one thing, but if this was considered a great machine at a street price, how can anyone complain about it?Toshiba has traditionally made fine televisions, and many have lauded their line of DVD players as well. This model offers a solid performer at a ridiculously low price for a 5-disc changer. Considering other favorable reviews of this model on other DVD-related sites and in magazines, I went ahead and ponied up for a couple. What can be said pro and con for the unit?First off, the cons:1) Not a stylish bone in its body. About as exciting to look at as a beige wall.2) The aforementioned (by other reviewers) slow response to commands. From checking around, it seems that all multidisc players are a bit laggard in responding, though. Is the Toshiba any worse? I can't say for sure, lacking any empirical stopwatch figures.3) Inputs and outputs. If you have a VCR, dish receiver, DVD, and TV, you may have a problem if you lack an AV tuner/receiver capable of handling all the inputs and outputs. The SD2805 sadly lacks an S-Video input, having only an output. Same for some of the other more recent forms of ports; you've got every possible output, but few inputs. So if you have an older TV lacking a plethora of different inputs, you might have a problem if you don't have a way to juggle all the inputs and outputs. This problem is true of most DVD players, though. Why manufacturers can't provide a way to avoid buying a new receiver to handle this last, additional device, I don't know.4) The remote is poor. Not universal, not even a decent size, it sadly falls in with many of its brethren in providing far too many buttons. Why manufacturers can't provide more modal buttons, ones that have multiple functions, I don't know. For instance, on the SD2805 the "play" button pressed once just plays. But what if pressed again it paused? Pressed once more, it could play again. In short, no need for a pause button. In fact, using this as an example, I believe that half the buttons could be eliminated. The other issue lies in how some buttons don't work without pressing them several distinct times. The "disc skip" button held down should cycle through the discs, but it does not. In short, as necessary as a remote is to accessing specific functions, this one seems an afterthought. And now, the pros:1) The picture is tack sharp and stunning. Unlike cheap DVD players, the picture does not "bloom" or "breathe", meaning solid, perfectly-saturated colors "within the lines" and no pulsing of colors or images. This is the best picture I have seen on a player that is not progressive scan ( - which is essential for HD TVs.) 2)The audio is excellent. A few CDs revealed a more spacious feel than I got from my old CD player when driven through the same speakers and receiver.3) Did I mention it was a multidisc player - a price point for many single-disc players?5) Plays about every format of disc out there. In short, you can have a top-rated DVD player for less than half its original SRP. Is this a closeout? Sure it is. Toshiba just announced a new line of players with built-in Tivo. Still, if you have not taken the DVD plunge and love a value, this is the unit to get. Beautiful pictures. Stunning for $100 I've had a string of players with what I imagine are [bad] video decoders; my Onkyo would sometimes just freeze up at one screen for about five seconds, the RCA not only did that, it produced horribly pixelated scene transitions. The RCA also seemed to put out terribly low audio levels; I had to crank the TV to hear the silly thing. The American Beauty DVD seems to break on most DVD players. I was pretty frustrated. Then I got the Toshiba. For [money], all I wanted was good, smooth, colorful images on DVD and a decent audio output level. And I got that... this produces the brightest, clearest DVD picture I've ever seen. The remote buttons are too dang small but then they're ALL too dang small. And it plays American Beauty without a hiccough.I didn't want Video CD, SVCD, CD audio, or MP3, and I didn't even care about the DVD changer; they were all gravy for 100 bucks. I *did*, however, like the changer when watching _24_ on DVD!If you have a cheap DVD player that you hate, throw it away or put it in the kid's room and buy yourself one of these. You won't be sorry. Absolutely amazing value. This Toshiba unit has more tricks up its sleeve than most users will ever need, and many you're likely to ever know about unless you study the manual closely. Suffice it to say it will play virtually any format CD or North American DVD you throw at it with considerable aplomb. While I have not found any real need for a DVD changer just yet, its CD changer makes this unit great for handling all the music at your next party. Its DVD features zoom magnification of any point in any image, and its digital processing allows for nearly perfect freeze frame or zoom. Audio outputs are plentiful, as are video hook up options. The remote is fairly well laid out and the menus are logical. This is a great all-purpose player at a great price.

Amazon Sales Rank: #97394 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Nakamichi Model: 5 Dimensions: 24.00 pounds
Nakamichi's SoundSpace 5 is a 3-CD compact stereo designed for places where full-sized audio components just won't fit. The 3-piece system is small enough for the kitchen or bedroom and stylish enough for your library or office. Why settle for bad sound, cheap build quality, or ugly equipment? SoundSpace 5 was designed to deliver stereo reproduction to rival the concert-hall quality of full-sized Nakamichi components. Its 3 components, styled in contemporary brushed metal and acrylic, can be arranged in different ways: standing, tilted like easel frames, or even hung on the wall. Your choice of charcoal, blue, and green speaker grilles are included for coordination with any decor. The main unit houses a MusicBank 3-disc CD changer, an FM/AM tuner, and the system preamplifier and volume control. Operational buttons are arranged conveniently on the top panel, and a front window lets you witness the operation of the changer, which subtly illuminate in blue or amber (user selectable). The MusicBank changer needs no magazine and is as easy to load as a single-disc CD player. It permits fast, safe disc handling and never touches the disc's playing surface. This changer allows full control over playback functions, including all-disc memory play, random play, all repeat, and memory-repeat play. The speakers are unique in housing their own power amplifiers. Each uses a 3.9-inch midrange/bass driver and a 1-inch semi-dome tweeter. The power amplifiers are optimized for the speakers they drive, ensuring proper stereo "imaging" and wide dynamic range. Nakamichi's FM/AM tuner offers one-touch preset settings for 20 FM and 10 AM stations as well as convenient preset scan or seek tuning. A high-performance quartz-synthesis tuner provides stable, high-quality reception. SoundSpace 5 includes an optical digital output for feeding accurate, digital CD signals to a minidisc or a CD recorder. There are stereo analog RCA inputs and outputs for a cassette deck, as well as auxiliary inputs for a video source. The RCA-type subwoofer output permits connection of any optional subwoofer with a built-in low-pass filter. Plugging in headphones automatically mutes the speakers. For your convenience, the system comes with two separate remote controls. The primary remote engages all functions, including disc eject, while the secondary remote controls major functions and allows blind key operation. What's in the Box Main unit, 2 speakers, 3 sets of speaker grilles (charcoal, blue, and green), 2 remote controls, remote batteries, a 220-240V AC power adapter, a user's manual, and warranty information.
Disappointing over time. I loved this system when I first bought it four years ago. Sleek, cool, and stylish; I bought it more for the way it looked than for the way it sounded (and it sounds great). It still looks great, now if it only PLAYED as well as it looks. After four years it's almost unusable. I've already had to have it repaired twice because of poor soldering inside, and just about any CD I put into it skips. It's gotten so bad that I need to burn a new CD just about any time I want to play something. The shuffle feature is terrible -- it plays the same songs over and over again, which is pretty bad considering that even cheap boomboxes "remember" which songs they've already played and remove them from the playlist. The remote has lots and lots of tiny, tiny buttons, impossible to use or read in dim lighting. Yeah, it's possible that I got a lemon, but getting it repaired was also an incredibly difficult chore. None of the 800 numbers listed in the manual worked, none of the e-mail addresses I tried worked, and even when I got a valid address, it took four e-mail messages and three angry phone calls before I finally got the address of an authorized repair center. The guy there told me that if I needed new parts I may as well buy a new system; if the parts arrived at all, they would be very exepensive. I know that only used versions of this are available, and maybe it would be worth buying if you can get one for less than three hundred and have immaculately dust-free, brand-new CDs. I paid almost eight hundred in 2003, and I wish I had the money back. Not worth the $$$$$ I too have owned this stereo system for a little over 2 1/2 years. PROS: Sound is okay. Cool sleek look... Slim profile. CONS: By far the biggest complaint is the proprietary speaker connections. The speaker wires provided are thin (like a cheap extension cord), EXTREMELY short, and hardwired directly into the back of the speakers. The "loose end" that connects to the main unit has this rectangular plug connection that is not found on any other device I have ever seen or owned. Even if you want to, you can't extend the cable or replace the speakers because the the idiotic speaker end connections. Unless your willing to cut the ends off and take a chance with making 2 splices in the speaker cable. If you want to replace the speakers, that would require 3 splices. Nakamichi website says that they offer speaker cable extensions for this item although I have never seen them offered for sale anywhere. NOBODY sells them and to order them, the site directs you to a non-toll-free phone in Singapore (from the USA) to get details. I am not sure if all Nakamichi stereos have these type of speaker connections but it would be something to look into before buying. Remote is useless as I cannot read the small print under each button. I memorized where the power on/power off and volume up and down buttons are and use them. Other than that, I get up and make changes myself at the unit. All control buttons on the main unit are on the top rear and every button is the same size and shape. I found to even access the buttons, the top of the unit has to be at least 3 inches below eye level if you want to see what you are pressing. The unit is about a foot tall. So if you are of average height for a girl (5'4") you have to place this unit no higher than 4' off the floor to see what you're doing. CD access is from the top so enough clearance (the diameter of a CD plus) has to be provided above the unit. Unit can't be placed in the middle of a bookcase unless shelf above is far enough away. I'm sure these CONS are common among many mini stereo systems, but this one cost so much more $$$$. There just aren't enough PROS to offset the cost. For the price (I bought new for $649), I would have thought these inconveniences would have been worked out. I will most likely be selling mine for a fraction of it's original cost and buy something else that's a little more flexible. Sound Space SS5 Excellect equipment for the price; next tier up is Bang & Oluffsen. Nakamichi brand once more in a high pedestal.

worth the money Nice inexpensive radio, cd player, sounds good, nice clean sub output, easy install.. aux input worked nice also.. still like Sony Great, might upgrade I got this for my old Ford pickup, and (apart from removing the old radio) installation was easy. I didn't have a harness converter, but the directions identified the wires well enough for me to make my own. One thing I would suggest that is not in the instructions is to reassemble the dashboard before inserting the support frame, as the black outside ring didn't fit the slot, but would have sat nicely on the face of the dashboard (I just left it off). This is a great unit that sounds great. My only complaint is that while it reads CD text, it doesn't capture MP3 text from the radio (so you can see what song is playing). I might someday look for a model that does that. Very good and simple car stereo. I wanted a replacement for my very old car stereo because it didn't have anyway of hooking up my iPod. The previous stereo was a very old Sony Explode, it worked great for many years but it was time to move on to better things. And here I was back at Amazon for another Sony Explode. A great and simple removable faceplate with an AUX input (regular mini-jack) to connect my iPod. I also feel it gets much better radio reception/tunning and all in all it sounds great and loud enough for most people. I personally don't like to feel my entire car vibrate when listening to music, nor do I care to share my music with my entire neighborhood as I drive by. So, check it out. It doesn't have all the amazing features you can find, but for the price it's great.

Cambridge - 640C v2 - CD Player - Black
From Cambridge Audio LTD

The 640C (Version 2) takes the very best of its forbear and includes a whole raft of improvements to add even greater refinement. Key to these are two Wolfson WM8740 24-bit/192kHz DACs (digital to analog converters) - where the previous model featured one.The unit also includes a high-specification toroidal transformer for extremely low distortion and excellent signal to noise ratio. These and many other technologies such as a completely separate power supply and upgraded audio filter and regulator stages, result in the delivery of a huge dynamic range and a wonderfully clear, clean sound. The 640C v2 sits on an acoustically damped chassis and features a solid aluminum front panel with ergonomically designed controls. Where most CD players at this price are constructed from plastic and skinned with metal, the 640C's all-metal construction offers incredible rigidity. The 640C's clear display is now dimmable via the new Azur navigator remote control. This too is superbly finished in aluminum and is perfectly weighted. It controls all the 640C's features and allows tracks to be accessed and programmed directly - all from the comfort of your armchair. All in all, it's hard to imagine a more accomplished CD player at this price point.

Well worth the Money. I purchase this unit 4 weeks ago. I got it and set it up in my system It work well at first but then soon the sound got thin sounding and a very flat sound stage. Then one day I lost the right channel. I called Audio Advisor then sent a new unit right away and also sent the shipping lable for me to send back the old unit. I took the new unit and set it up in a small system and let it burn in for 4 days. then move it into the larger system. It sounds great. the bottom end is tight but well pronounced. It is very much worth the money. It replaced a Califorina Audio unit that was 20 years old. It sound much better.

spectacular i picked this unit up to replace my POS boss head unit...wow...the extra cost truly does make that much of a difference...this unit is outstanding...my stereo sounded soo much better once i installed this unit...and its great for me b/c it has rear aux inputs (i have an audio cable wired through my center console for a more personalized professional look) along with a usb input (the cable provided was long enough to feed through the side of the dash to the front of the dash or to the passenger side seat) and i believe 6 preamp outputs...aside from all that...you can upgrade this unit by adding a changer, satellite radio, or many other things...additionally, i get compliments on this unit from everyone who gets in my car...everyone loves the display and the fact that the major controls slide and there are no numbers to press for presets and such...this unit is amazing Excelent audio You can feel the Clarion crispness and quality on this product. It is difficult to learn the technical advantages the stereo comes with, but the basics are easy and if you are an enthusiast on the matter then once you learn to modify audio variables then you will be very happy with it. Its a very cool stereo for your car and it is definitely one of Clarion's top of the line Car stereos.

Technics SL-PD8 5-CD Changer
From Technics

5 disc CD changer, digital optical output, quick disc rotation system, disc location display, phone style 10 key keypad, ID scan, wireless remote control
Amazon Sales Rank: #90717 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Technics Model: SL-PD8
The phone-style keypad on Technics' SL-PD8 5-disc CD changer makes for easy programming, and the wireless remote control allows you to access and change what you've programmed, even in random mode. It also has an edit guide function and easy-to-read disc-location display. The MASH 1-bit DAC and optical digital output promise good sound quality from this CD changer.
An excellent value with some minor glitches For the price, I have seen few components that offer the variety of features and the quality of sound that the SL-PD8 can. The unit is slightly bulky but very sturdy. The single significant drawback is somewhat inconvenient placement of some controls, particularly the Skip button, which is difficult to reach with the drawer open. Other than that, the unit is very easy to use considering its impressive selection of features.Perhaps the most unusual feature is the Spiral Play capability, which plays the first track of each disc, then the second, the third, and so on, delivering the variety of the more common random play mode and the reliability of straight through play in a single function. I find this to be the most frequently used function in my household. The sound quality is quite good. Although the upper frequencies are slightly tinny and occasionally a bit indistinct, they are more than adequate for even classical music. The midranges make for dynamic vocals and the low end is most impressive.Certainly, there are better technical units out there, but none are anywhere near this price range and, consequently, do not offer the value of this Technics deck. For the home audiophile who wants solid performance without busting the budget, this is a very good choice. Best deal at the price After reviewing the reviews, ordering the player, then reading the instructions ( very helpful) but the unit is very forgiving. It is easy to use, has great sound quality (mine is coupled with a Technics Amp - by coincidence). Only took me a few minutes to explain to the other half and she got it the first time. Just so happens the remote is nice but since my amp is a Technics they both work. Only draw back I see is the disk skip button is awkward to reach when the platter is open and that you "must not" close the door by hand. You must use the button which is as hard to reach as the disk skip button with the door open. It has a remote. First of all, the Technics SL-PD8 comes with a remote (I believe it is the SL-PD6 that lacks a remote control). The Technics SL-PD10, I believe, adds a pitch control to vary the speed of playback. The Technics mentioned above have a lot of features for the money, but the layout of the control panel leaves much to be desired. The buttons are generally small and close together. But what is really bad is the placement of the "Disc Skip" button, which is just above the door near the middle. When the door is closed, this is not a problem, but when the door is open and you want to change which discs are exposed, it is just about the worst place it could be. And to make matters worse, it is a very narrow button (vertically, not horizontally), so it is extra inconvenient. Also, the remote is not a good shape (at least for my hand), and it uses the same buttons for selecting the disc and the track, so you have to push "Disc" then "1" (or whatever disc number you want), where the "1" is the same "1" you push for selecting the track.

BeBoP Sing-Along CD Player I purchased this for my son's birthday and he is having so much fun with it. I don't know what the negative review is about. The microphones work great on the player we received. There is an on/off switch for each microphone and a volume control separate from the music volume control. It's easy to use and durable (and my son is not that easy on his toys). There's a mail-in coupon for a free 2-CD set which is a remarkable bargain. The price, free 2-CD set, and twin microphones all helped me decide that this was the right CD player for us. I'm giving it 5 stars and a high recommendation. Needs a power cord My daughter loves this toy. It's true the mics don't really work that well but she loves carrying it around and can play it herself easily. So far we have had only one issue. It does not turn off automatically, which means the first time your two year old leaves it on the batteries will run down. Also, it didn't come with a power cord, although you can buy your own separately and plug it in. If it came with it's own cord I would give it 5 stars. Still recommend it. My Grandaughter loves this Sing Along CD Player This product is very inspiring for young children musical world. It is entertaining and educational. While not the sound quality of their parent's expensive system, it is adequate and durable. Highly Recommended!
